Revision of my classroom activity

For my first classroom activity I wanted to give a placement test to my students. The targeted student level and subject are high school students in mathematics. After reading the comments that were posted to me, I figured that I would change the way that I could give the test. Just this past week in our intro to computers in education class we have learned how to hyperlink and create test on a power point program. What I would do is set up the test in such a way that the first answer the student produces will be the final product for that one question. That is how each student will move throughout the test. Afterward I would encourage each student to discuss their thoughts and feelings of the test. Each student would have a week to post comments, thoughts, or any other kind of response that they have in a posting room that I create for the class to utilize. The posting room would be a kind of blog such as this one. I would have the students create a user name. Each student will need to post at least one type of response every week about the class. These postings will have to be made on their own time. I know that there are some students that may not have access to a computer with internet capabilities. In the case that a student cannot use internet at their home I will tell those students to go to the school library and make their comment there. These are a few ways that I intend to incorporate technology with my classroom activity.

I believe you have done a great job trying to think of ways to incorporate three forms of technology within a subject as difficult as math. I like your PowerPoint idea, but I am a little confused as to how you will use the hyperlink system within PowerPoint to test your student’s previous math knowledge. Try to put it into a step-by-step format so that it is easier for teachers, who are interested in using your math activity, to understand. Also, how will you use the hyperlinks to test each student individually? Do you even want to test your students individually? PowerPoint is a presentation system intended for an audience. If you wanted your students to view the PowerPoint individually, you could schedule a meeting in the computer lab. As for your blog, I think this is an excellent idea for a math class. I would recommend continuing the blog for as long as your class meets, so that students could privately discuss their concerns about the class material. I look forward to your next post. Good luck!
