Mind in Overload
Wow, this past week has been pretty crazy. This week my goal was to get all of my work in on time for all of my classes. I am very happy to say that so far I have accomplished my goal. This week's work load was not really different than any other week, but it was very tedious. But hard work just comes with the college territory. What really made this week crazy is my softball team. I coach a softball team at Cypress Lake high school. This week one of my girls decided that she was going to walk off of the team because she didn't want to run sprints. Afterward she tried to ask if she could come back on to the team. The very next day I found out that another one of the girls on my team couldn't play anymore, because her mother was punishing her for something stupid she did. And to top it all off the one girl that works the hardest all of the time and is my only pitcher got injured. She messed up her knee is definitely done for the season. So with that I am left with exactly nine players. So besides school work to worry about I also have to worry if there will be enough girls to finish out the rest of the season. That was my crazy week!

Betty, my hair went up in a strange way when I read your reflections about coaching. My first year teaching, I coached cross country. For me, the continual cause of frustration was the lack of commitment on the part of the students. For some odd reason, and perhaps you can provide some insight, I could deal with the lack of commitment in the classroom. Just rack up your zeroes buddy. But with running cross country? This team was a CHOICE! Sorry for shouting but this always perplexed me. Why would you choose to do something and complete it in a half-assed way? Argh! Even with clubs... last year I was the sponsor for the first Gay/Straight Alliance in Lee County (actually, SW Florida)... Kids came to me and requested the club. But when it came time to do something, helloo?
Of course, this is not necessarily your experience.. but I think it is a source of frustration. In fact, it has made me less likely to sponsor clubs and such.
